The Karviná Basin from Orbit

103,970 measurement points of vertical ground motion (2020–2024) and four releases of six-day time series (2016–2024). Active Polish mines (JSW/PGG) subside by up to 70 mm per year — yet on the Czech side, where mining ended in 2021, the Darkov site still sinks by up to 55 mm per year. The subsampled public EGMS viewer hides these Czech extremes; the full product behind a free account shows them.

Correction vs. the first version: the table now comes from the full downloaded product. The viewer’s anonymous tiles are subsampled — Darkov showed 8 points at −1.9 there; in reality 203 points and −54.9. Grey points (|v| < 1.5) are stable, red ones subside. Markers ①–④ on the map refer to the chart below.

Four Fates of the Ground, 2016–2024

Cumulative vertical displacement of four real points (composed from the 2016–2021 archive and the 2018–2022 / 2020–2024 releases, aligned on their overlaps). A multi-year average blends these stories together — the time series tells them apart: point ① was stable until the mining wind-down, started moving around 2021/22 and is accelerating today. Point ④ (Kozinec) had been sinking steadily since 2016. DIAMO documents infrastructure monitoring under residual mining effects in the wider area and groundwater monitoring at Kozinec. We do not establish causation or identity with a specific asset. Each curve is zeroed at its own first epoch; point ③ enters the product only in 2018.
